Izaak Walton Killam - The Richest Man in Canada on the Grand Cascapedia River
Izaak Walton Killam was at one time the richest man in Canada. He was born in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia on July 23, 1885. He was ambitious and started to work as a young boy selling newspapers. At the age of 18, he worked as a junior clerk and went on to build his financial empire by funding and operating steel, pulp and paper, hydroelectric and grain companies across Canada and Latin America.
He was known as “the mystery man” of Canadian finance because of the low public profile he maintained. But despite his great success in the business world, he never forgot the simple joys of going fishing as a child with his father.
This is a story of how a very rich, powerful and private man found his way to Grand Cascapedia River in the 1950s to fulfill a dream before his time ran out, which it did at his private camp on the river.
